I would like to pass on a little advise for those of you with vacation homes in the mountains. If you have an older heating system, 12 years and older, I would advise you before you leave for the winter, to have your furnace serviced. It's just a good idea to make sure that everything is in good working order and that there isn't anything that may be of concern that could cause the unit to go down in the winter. I have presonally experienced a situation where my furnace broke down in the middle of a very cold week. It took 36 hours before i could get someone to take a look at it and when they did, the outcome was that the furnace needed a new part to be fixed. Well...this took a week for the part to come in and another two days for the part to be installed. No fun when the temps are in the 30's for the high and in the teens for the low's.
