New NC Boating Safety Laws in Effect
The new law affects how any person younger than 26-years-old may operate a vessel or a personal watercraft. Under the new law, in order to operate a vessel with a motor of 10hp or greater, anyone under 26 must either: 1. Complete and pass a boating safety course that is approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators and accepted by the Wildlife Resources Commission or... 2. Is accompanied on board by and under the direct supervision of a person who is at least 26-years-old or... 3. Is accompanied on board by and under the direct supervision of a person who is at least 18-years-old and who has passed an approved boating safety course.
