On thursday Feb 2, I got an email from Cashiers Mortgage Services Inc showing the current interest rates. I'm just amazed at how low these rates are: 30 year fixed 3.50% / 15 year fixed 2.875%. It really is a good time to buy in the Cashiers, Highlands, Sapphire Lake Glenville area as prices are still lower than they have been in years. For more info on current rates, you can call Joe Pearson at Cashiers Mortgage Services,
828-743-0075. Tell him Rob Whitney sent you.

The landowner that has this rock on his property has just recently put the land into a conservation easement. This is great as it promises this rock to remain in it's current location in tuckasegee, nc for many years to come. There is approximately 10,000 vistors a year that come to look at the rock.

That's right, What is called Donkey Ball was held last week at the blue ridge school. This is actually donkey basketball!. The teams play on the court with real donkeys. The rules are that you have to lead your donkey down the court while carrying the ball. Before you can make a basket, you have to get on the donkey and then shoot the ball. It's really different and fun to watch. The event raised 1500.00 dollars for the blue ridge school.

Well, the Jackson County Board of Commissioners voted last week to delay the county's tax revaluation that could have occured this year until the mandatory date of 2016. This unfortunately means that we will all still be paying property taxes based on 2004-2008 valuations.
Well, one of our local waterfalls, Dry Falls in Highlands, NC will be closed down for the 2012 season as announced by the U.S. Forest Service this week. They have decided that it's time to do improvements on the trail down to the falls and improve the safety for visitors. Two years ago they closed it down for improving the parking area. I love this waterfall as it's always roaring tons of water and you can walk underneath it for some great pictures and memories.
